The Orion by Nomos is one of my favourite watches. It already offers great value for the money at retail price and amazing value when bought used.
I’ve had it in my rotation for two years now and I feel like it’s the perfect watch for my first ever review!
Specifications of the Orion
Let’s get the specifications out of the way:
Case
- Case Diameter: 35mm
- Thickness: 8.45mm (with Sapphire caseback)
- Lug width: 18mm
- Lug to Lug: 44mm
- Drilled lugs
- Polished case
- Signed crown
- Water Resistance: 3 ATM
Dial
The Orion is virtually all dial with a very thin bezel.
The hour stick hand finishes before the hour indices while the minute hands does so after the indices and in the middle of the minute chapter. Thanks to that, reading the time is very easy.
It has a sub-dial at six for the seconds, with again a stick hand finishing in the middle of the second chapter. Concentric circles in that sub-dial at texture to the dial.
On the regular Orion the hour indices are applied while they are printed like the minute and second chapters on my special edition.
The Nomos brand
The German brand Nomos was founded in 1990 in the town of Glashütte, where A. Lange & Söhne and Glashütte Original are also headquartered, in the Free State of Saxony.
They have been known since then for their minimalist/Bauhaus designs as well as their in-house manufacturing capabilities.
The popularity of the brand started to really pick up in the early 2010s and it has won many awards, including Watch of the Year and Red Dot design awards.
